Zinc reduces sebum secretion by inhibiting 5-alpha-reductase. Seborrhea regulation is androgen-dependent, in particular by testosterone. Every target cell of the sebaceous gland contains an enzyme, 5 alpha-reductase, that converts testosterone into dihydroxytestosterone (DHT). DHT effects hair follicles, causing the stimulation of the sebaceous gland and the resulting increase in sebum production. To increase efficacy and bio-availability to cells, we combine zinc with L-pyrrolidone carboxylic acid (L-PCA). Carboxylic acids are used for acne, rosacea, warts, eczema and psoriasis. Zinc PCA reduces the secretion of sebum and helps retain skin humidity by strengthening the barrier of skin.
